The Association of Whistler Area Residents for the Environment (AWARE) has extended a trial project in which reusable bags are available for guest in hotel rooms at the Crystal Lodge Hotel. Funded by AFOW, the initiative was due to end in April, but after receiving positive feedback from guests the program will continue.
2014 WHISTLER BAG: IN-ROOM HOTEL PILOT PROJECT
HOT OFF THE PRESS: This project will move ahead in 2014 thanks to the funding and partnership support of the American Friends of Whistler and The Crystal Lodge Hotel.
The Whistler Bag: In-Room Hotel Pilot seeks to:
To deliver a pilot project that demonstrates how the positive and eco-focused concept behind the Whistler Bag can leave a positive impression on Whistler visitors, while engaging them to adopt personal habits that benefit the environment.
The In-Room Hotel Pilot Project will provide Whistler guests with a freely available reusable Whistler bag while they are staying in resort. If the guest chooses to take the bag home as a souvenir a charge will be applied to their room, the same as if an item from the honesty bar is purchased. For the purpose of the pilot each guest room will be provided with two bags, one new bag (intended for purchase) and the freely available loaner bag.
The Whistler Bag will be made from 100% recycled content. Produced by a company in California the emissions from shipping are offset and if the bags were ever to break the company replaces them, meaning your Whistler bag really is a bag for life. The bags themselves will be designed by a Whistler artist through an artwork competition.
