The Whistler Adaptive Sports Program is a not–for–profit society that encourages independence, self–confidence and self–motivation through outdoor recreation for its athletes and participants. The Society provides year–round recreational programs for people of all ages with disabilities and serves as a centre for learning and sports excellence for its local, regional, national and international clientele.
Jeff Harbers Adaptive Sports Center
In May of 2009 the AFOW announced a $50,000 donation to the Whistler Adaptive Sports Program’s (WASP) for its new Welcome and Equipment Centre at Whistler Blackcomb. AFOW joined the growing community support providing a permanent legacy for individuals with a disability in Whistler: at that time Whistler Blackcomb Foundation, Scotiabank, Andrew Tarret Architecture, Borden Ladner and Gervais, Lucent Alcatel and First Canadian Development Corp.
As the project developed, AFOW granted an additional $67,000 to bring our contribution to $117,000. We are very appreciative that WASP chose to name the center the Jeff Harbers Adaptive Sports Center, a community legacy remembering and honoring the memory of Jeff Harbers, an AFOW co–founder and its first president.
